This Kids Say the Darnest Things is both funny and tear jerking. Last night little J caught me looking on a blank wall deep in thought so she asked:
little J: Mommy, why?
Big J: Oh, I'm just thinking baby, what if I lose my job?
I didn't think that little J would actually understand what loosing my job really means. She is just 3, and I thought her answer would be just.. "oh, ok mommy" but I was wrong..She immedietly cried, and I mean really cry.. sobbing furiously.
little J: but mommy? that can't be?(crying very with a very worried look)
How can we buy milk? how can I go to school? I want to go to school, I love school. What's going to happen to you? You will not have money? You will be sad.
Big J: (Still shocked with her reaction) Oh baby, stop crying its ok, we are going to be ok. I still have a job and if ever I lose this one it is easy for me to find another one. If I can't find one, I can sell books or do the internet thing right? I can make houses or be a contractor again. Don't worry baby, we still have a lot of options. It just that, I am so comfortable on how it is with us now. If I change job or do something else, our routine will be a little different.
littl J: (calming down) but what if you really can't find another job?
Big J: I will find one, if not I can do buisness. Don't worry baby, we still have a lot of saving right? We still have money, and mommy always has something that she can do to make money. I'm an architect, I can make houses again. We can go back to Laguna and build houses there, Mommy already did around 20 houses there, and if all things fails Mama and Papa will support us right?
little J: What if Mama and Papa doesn't have work too? (I Have to make a long explanation why mama and papa will not lose their job)
Big J: Baby, don't worry ok? Mommy will do the worrying. You will still get to go to school, I promise that you will have a very nice Birthday Party in school, that's how you wanted it right? A party in school? (trying to turn away from the losing job part, distracting her with the birthday party)
This is the funny part:
little J: Yes mommy, happy nako! kase marami ka ng gagawin.. takot kse ako pag wala kang ginagawa.
If I translat it directly to English it will sound really funny.
wrong translation: Yes mommy, Im happy already, because you still have a lot to do, I am scared when you are not doing anything. (It didn't came out right) It's as if she is telling me I am irresponsible.. haha.. what she is really trying to say is....
Right tagalog="Yes mommy" Happy nko! Kase, alam kong marami ka pang pwedeng gawin, makakagawa ka pa ng paraan. Takot lang kase ako kung wala ka ng magagawa.
Right English translation: "Yes mommy, I'm happy already, because I know, there is still a lot of things that you can do. I will be scared if you really can't do anything about it.
I cried all night when she got to sleep, I cried not because I might lose my job. I cried because she really cares, she really understand. She is scared not just for her own sake but also for me. It feels harder if you are just left hanging, it would have been easier if my boss will just announce it. But I think, he himself is not sure of what's going to happen. He doesn't want to lay off his employees, but the economic stability and recession is really hitting our industry big time.

Kids Say the Darnest Thing #9
We we're all sitted in the dining room, having serious conversation when little J went out from the bedroom and walked towards us in a "Miss Universe" walk. She then said:
Little J: Hi! My name is Jea.
Nobody paid attention to her, we just continued with our conversations.
Little J: My name is Jea...
We can hear her but we are still not paying attention. Then she blurted out......
Everybody laughed, and we are just so surprised on how well she can come up with punch lines. It never fails, she never fails to bring us to laughter.

Kids Say the Darnest Things #8
Last friday I had to leave little J with Nang-nang Pau (SIL), little J's Ninang, hence Nang-nang, because my "very reliable" cousin suddenly decided not to take care of little J. She used to come by our place every Tuesdays and Fridays when little J doesn't have school to look over her.
So we dropped little J to Nong-nangs place and I rode with Nong-nong going to office, I know there will be another "Kids Say the Darnest Thing Momment". Nang alwasy has some funny anctic to tell me when the 2 of them get together. So I am sharing this one for all of you.
Nang-nang=:(walks in the bathroom) "Take a bath lang ako ha!"
Little J: "No, nang-nang stay here! Wala ako kasama!"
Nang-nang: "Pero dito lng ako, you can hear me paren"
Little J: "Eh, I can't see you naman."
Nang-nang: "it's ok, nobody's gonna come and get you"
Little J: "No, dito ka lang"
Nang-nang: "Eh pano ako maliligo?"
Little J: "Ewan ko syo! Malaki ka na no!!"
So Nang-nang has to go and fetch her neighbors maid to accompany little J while she takes a bath. Sorry, nang-nang for the inconvenience, and thank you so much for always taking her in.
For those who can't understand tagalog, I'm sorry but this has to written as it is.

Kids Say the Darnest Thing # 7
We just got home from Sta.Rosa, and I am already feeling the stress because of the Holidays. We are always out of the house and somewhere out of town. When we got home, I had to hurry cooking dinner. I poped the Fish fillet in the microwave to defrost it and stir fried it with some garlic and olive oil. I put a little more salt ans it turned out really salty, so to cover up my mistake I put some heavy cream to nutralize the saltiness. Well, I was not successful.
Little J: Mommy, Im hungry.
Big J: Ok, do you want fish and rice? (fish is her favorite food)
Little J: Oh yes, yes mommy! fish and rice!
So I grabed some and heat it up in the microwave. Mama ate with her.
Little J: Mommy, baket ganito yung fish? Why is the fish like this?
Big J: Why baby? Is it salty?
Little J: No...... mommy... parang.. parang.... medyo.. medyo.. hindi masarap! Mommy, its like, its like...... it doesn't taste so good.
Oh thank yopu baby, its the best rejection line I've ever heard, it's negative but it sounded so sweet.

Kids Say the Darnest Things #4 | The Right Time to Shop
I was never the "shopper" type. You can leave me in a mall for a whole day sale and I will still end up not buying anything for myself. Im not a compulsive shopper, unless its food. I always plan my purchase, budget before I actually buy, and most often than not if ever I buy something for myself I will end up worrying and neglecting I did. But of course its a different thing if its for my daughter.
Im still not a compulsive buyer, but I dont feel guilty if I do buy something for little J. Yes I buy her stuff every pay period, and i buy her pasalubong everyday. Even if its as simple and as little as choconut. I always get the same "hey yey!" when I come home. I even think that I splurge on little J's toys this season, buying stuff from come & play I already bought a vtech learning sytem from ebay, a building block set, a dress a bear set. Im also buyinh magnetic easel, and even some doll house. So I admit Im "kuripot" (thrifty) but that only applies to me. For my daughter I splurge. Im a selfless mom, some of my friends say, but this conversation with little J this afternoon made me realize that I should take care of myself more.
I fetch her from school, she's already wearing her civilian clothes. i asked her where are her uniform and read along to know the punchline.
Big J: Where is your uniform baby?
Little J: In my bag mommy.
Big J: Ok! Let's go.
Little J:(While looking at my blouse) Mommy? Is that your uniform too?
Big J:(Surprised) Uhhm, yes baby, its my uniform.
Actually, its not a uniform, but I have 2 shirts of different color, both long sleve stripes and I wear it at least once per week. She must have thought that its my uniform because Im wearing it too often. Made me realize that I have to buy myself some new clothes. Or else she will really think its a uniform.
Its funny because she's very observant even my clothes, but somehow its also sad, its a proof that I neglected myself ever since I had my daughter. Is it really like that? Do we have to lose ourself when we give everything to our children? Maybe I lovedher too much that I forgot to love myself.

Kids Say the Darnest Things#2
We are at home after day in the office, little J invited her cousing LJ to go up and play. They played in the living room while I prepare dinner. I noticed that little J was turning around, just spinning like a top. Whe was turning around and around. Then she will stop. She try so hard to kep her balance, of course she will get dizzy after spinning like that.
So the two of them, kep on doing that, spinning then stopping trying to keep their balance. I just watched them, they will smile when they stopped. I was curious of what was going in their heads then I heard little J say this.
Little J: Galing! Gumagalaw yung bahay! Umiikot! Wow! the house is moving, it's turning around in circles.
Galing! Umiikot pa rin, Pero hindi nasisira!
Wow! it keeps on turning, but it doesnt brake!
