No more toys policy...

During the holiday season, I was able to organize and clean up at home and I realized that little J has too much, and I mean too many toys. So when I purchased little J's Kitchen set, I also made a pact with her that we will not but any toy for her after that since this is a big splurge already and she said ok. So I went on buying her the kitchen set, but just barely a month after I already bought 3 dolls for her. I only intend to buy one Baby ALive Doll, but I won ib both auction in Ebay. I didn't expect to win, since I bid really low. I won a Baby Alive sit and slurp doll for only $2.00 and another one for only $1.50. So its really a win, win. Maybe I just give that other doll as a giveaway. Then I saw another cute doll online and purchased it again without thinking, haha. It's for Php350 only. 14" Dora the Explorer Plush Doll. So since, I cannot give it to little J because of the "No toy policy" that I myself impossed, I'm planning to keep it all in a box so that she has a lot of gifts to recieve on her birthday. I told her that we will only buy toy for her on her birthday, and Christmas so that she will cherish each, and treat them special. That was how I was trained when I was little, that's way I really took care of my toys. Since I only get them twice a year.

Kids Say the Darnest Things #8

Last friday I had to leave little J with Nang-nang Pau (SIL), little J's Ninang, hence Nang-nang, because my "very reliable" cousin suddenly decided not to take care of little J. She used to come by our place every Tuesdays and Fridays when little J doesn't have school to look over her.

So we dropped little J to Nong-nangs place and I rode with Nong-nong going to office, I know there will be another "Kids Say the Darnest Thing Momment". Nang alwasy has some funny anctic to tell me when the 2 of them get together. So I am sharing this one for all of you.

Nang-nang=:(walks in the bathroom) "Take a bath lang ako ha!"
Little J: "No, nang-nang stay here! Wala ako kasama!"
Nang-nang: "Pero dito lng ako, you can hear me paren"
Little J: "Eh, I can't see you naman."
Nang-nang: "it's ok, nobody's gonna come and get you"
Little J: "No, dito ka lang"
Nang-nang: "Eh pano ako maliligo?"
Little J: "Ewan ko syo! Malaki ka na no!!"

So Nang-nang has to go and fetch her neighbors maid to accompany little J while she takes a bath. Sorry, nang-nang for the inconvenience, and thank you so much for always taking her in.
For those who can't understand tagalog, I'm sorry but this has to written as it is.

What would be my answer to WHY?

Since I will be out of work, almost, most probably, or a hint of probability, i really don't know the percentage of probability of me loosing my job, I ask my cousin for a buisness idea, and this is his answer to my email:

Hi JP,

there are tons of creative ways to have business at home. but remember there is still a certain level of personal supervision that is needed to make sure you succeed.

*** is not small, though also not big. before we give you specific advice, we need to determine what business will fit your personal goals, work habits, expertise and interests. in other words, you must first answer WHY you need to do business. the obvious answer is to earn money. but if this is the only reason, then there is an easy reason as well for you to quit when yu see downturns in the business.

my point is, your WHY will fuel your energy, talent and commitment to make the business work. just to share with you, our WHY is: to build a business that will 1. enable us to help other people help themselves especially relatives and 2. to build enough resources to ensure our kids are given a head start when they start their own family. and when we think of these WHY's, we maintain focus on our goals to earn money.

so much for that lecture. lets sit down and see whats on your mind. answer the question WHY and you will know the WHAT and the HOW. That will also determine WHEN you will start and WHO will be responsible for it.

we will also share with you some of the major projects we have in mind and still waiting to be launched.

thats good thinking JP, we're happy for you, and we will definitely help you. see you next week.

He definitely opened up my mind, a buisness is not something that just pops in your mind and suddenly decide that you want to do it. There is really a deeper reason to it, made me think of my WHY.

I would say that when I became a mom my priority shifted, in fact my whole personality changed. I used to dream of getting rich and being the best architect there is.( I dream big) but now I don't even want that. My why?

To answer my WHY? I think I need to lay down my reasons for living, my dreams and what I want in life. Having little J changed my life, and now all I wanted is to be a good mom to her and my dreams, my decisions in life now is all for that, on how to be a good mom. I realized, providing for her, sending her to good school is not enough. Since I am a single mom, it is double pressure on me to be there for my daughter since I am the only one she has. Earning more money means more time away from her and I don't want that. So why do I want to start a buisness? Since I have saved a little, not much but it is better to start on a little something than not to start at all. I am hoping I can make that little something grow to something that will eventually let me leave employment and have more time with little J. That is my WHY, starting my own buisness will give me a chance to be with my daughter more and actually see her grow and guide her to what I wanted her to be. I am not aiming to be rich, just a plan B, for me to fall back on, sort of a secuity blanket if for some reason I will lose my job in the future or just of of being an architect. My profession is not as lucrative as I thought it would be back in college, and it is not at all easy to make money from it. ALthough my passion for architecture and design is still there, my focus now is to be good mom for little j first and foremost.

Im out of Work!!! Almost...

A few days ago my boss came in and talked to us, we just closed down the company last December to rename it, the company will now be called as AEDIFICATOR, means architect in Latin. So there is no surprise about that, its management call, e really don't know why they have to change it, maybe there are new investors, maybe to manipulate taxes. We all knew this since September or October. We saw the new license for the new company and even signed for is as one of the "incorporators". The new Business and Mayors permit are now hanged in our new office. As a simple almost non-existent employee, I couldnt care less, all that matters is I'm getting paid, and I am. I even believe that I am paid more than what I should get. So no problem right, nothing to worry about, not until a few days ago.

Last Tuesday my boss came in, explaining that since we closed down the previous company we are all getting "separation fee". So we should all be happy, because we all still have jobs because we are not actually closing down but just being transfered to new company or so we thought. I should really be happy about it, I will get 1 months salary worth of separation pay and full 7 months worth of taxes.. that will come up to about 70k. So I should really be happy its like bonus in January, but here is where our smiles melted. He continued talking about recession, how it hit a lot of industry even ours, Architectural firm in Hong Kong, Singapore and even the almight Dubai are closing down, 4 of my friends came home from abroad. 10 of one of my officemates classmates came home from Dubai, their firm closed down. So we got scared, does this mean that the new company AEDIFICATOR will not push through or will just close down, when we haven't really started. We are a small company, with less than 30 employees, to be honest closing down the company is really a good move foe our boss. We are not getting any projects since 3 months ago, and all we are doing is practicing the commands and blogging. Although he said that he doesn't like letting go of employees, but he also said that its is not just his decision to make, he is meeting up with his partners and they will discuss the future of the new company. I am really scared to lose this job, I got too comfortable with it, without pressure unlike in other firms that you have tons of OT. My boss is sooooooooo nice, he is like an angel and lastly because I don't think I can get another job that will pay me as much. My item is quite high compared from my contemporaries, almost twice as much or even more, no company will pay me the same amount. My daughters school is near my office and I particularly chose that school because of that reason, I can't imagine transferring little J to other school. If I lose this job, even if I get another job that pays as much it wouldn't be the same. You see, since my boss is soooooo nice, he lets me leave the office 1 hour earlier 3x a week to fetch little J from school. If I transfer to another company I don't think I can get the same priviledge. So I am now thinking of a business, something I do at home and still make money. Do you have any suggestions?

Edit: I am not yet out of work, infact I am not even sure if the company is really closing down, and even if so, my boss already told me that there is a possiblity that i will be absorbed with his other company which is still in the same line as my profession. I am just panicking...
